Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) Concentration
Students in this concentration take 6 credits of substance use disorder (SUD) courses as part of their elective course requirements. They must additionally complete a practicum and internship at a field placement site that focuses on SUD treatment under the supervision of a CSAC certified supervisor.
On this page:
Students are not guaranteed a practicum placement in a SUD facility and must interview for placement in the second semester of their first year.
This concentration fulfills the substance abuse-specific education requirement for Hawaiʻi state certification and satisfies a portion of the experiential hours requirement. Please note that in addition to completing these requirements, the State of Hawaiʻi currently requires CSAC applicants to complete additional supervised work hours, pass a national exam, submit other documentation and complete a background check. Please visit the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division for more information.
